Real Lives

Sarah

I grew up going to church and calling myself a "Christian", but no one told me what it really meant to be one. There are probably a lot of young people who like me, went to Sunday school and called themselves Christians but never even thought "why did Jesus die?" or "What does being a Christian really mean?"

My first real encounter with Jesus was when I was 14 years old at a Christian summer camp called Merseyside Christian Youth Camps. This was one of the best summers of my life so far! On the second to last night the speaker stood up and asked everyone "If you get hit by a bus tomorrow and die, were will you go?" Then they played the music video for "Jesus take the wheel" by Carrie Underwood- youtube it. This really struck me, would I go to heaven? I thought about it a lot that night and I asked a leader where would I go if I died tonight? They explained to me for the first time why Jesus died. From that night I made a decision to follow Jesus as my personal Saviour.

Since becoming a Christian I've had a peace. I know were I'm going; I'm going to heaven to eternally praise the God who saved me. I've gained a family in church, who love and support me throughout everything. And I've gained a confidence that I can do everything through him, the God who loved me, the God who gave his Son to die.

I still sin and I still feel down from time to time, but I know that no matter what I do nothing can drive away the God who loves me. I think this has been the most significant difference in my life since becoming a Christian. Life is never perfect being a Christian, but I'm positive it's the best life to live.
